Based on tracking over 100 million searches from 80 million shoppers, it also <\/span>suggest<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> that consumers are finally widening their denim tastes beyond skinny jeans and that Meghan Markle is set to be a top influencer.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #333333;\">So let\u2019s look at the report in more detail. As mentioned, Gucci remains fashion\u2019s biggest star with the brand topping Lyst\u2019s search list in 2017. Its logo T-shirt was June\u2019s top search and Lyst expects its Marmont bag to be top next month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In <\/span>second<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> place, we have not a designer brand but a fast fashion chain with Forever 21, at the complete opposite end of the price scale from Gucci, proving a popular search. Its plaid skirt topped the search list during February.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Also in the top 10 are Balenciaga and Vetements at numbers three and four, so a big vote there for Demna Gvasalia. <\/span>Next<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> come Free People. Saint Laurent, Nike, Topshop, Michael Kors and Givenchy.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #333333;\">TOP TRENDS<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #333333;\">Gucci also figures in the year\u2019s major trends because while there were more than 35 million specific Gucci searches, shoppers were also searching for Gucci-style pieces such as loud florals, clashing prints, snakes, and green and red stripes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Logos were also big fashion news with Gucci, Balenciaga, Loewe and Saint Laurent proving popular here alongside retro brands Champion, <\/span>Fila<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> and Kappa. Searches for these three sports brands rose 460%.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #333333;\">And while logos gained ground, slogans have also been a top pick with many designers choosing to embrace feminist or political messaging. \u201cIn a year of change, customers looked to fashion to express themselves,\u201d Lyst said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">It also highlighted the appeal of \u2018jet leisure\u2019 as a trend with searches for \u201cbright, fun holiday pieces by Zimmerman, Mara Hofman, Eugenia Kim, Dodo Bar Or and Melisa Odabash having started trending in May and remained high all summer. Retro looks have been big this year too, taking in the 70s, <\/span>80s<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> and 90s. That means <\/span>90s<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> with crop tops, chain mail, and spaghetti straps, or 70s flares, mustard tones, pussy bow <\/span>blouses<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> and cords. Disco glitter boots were popular autumn party pieces and searches for sequins rose 42% from June to November. Yeezy, <\/span>Off-White<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> and The Kardashians helped to bring back the 80s cycling short as searches rose 79%.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Meanwhile, searches including the word \u2018deconstructed\u2019 peaked during July and elevated streetwear was key with items from Balenciaga, <\/span>Vetements<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> and Off-White among the cult pieces of the year.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #333333;\">Lyst also saw an increase in searches for tailored pieces such as blazers (grey plaid was the most popular). And there was a 24% spike in searches for women\u2019s suits with red and pink suiting rising during September.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #333333;\">COLOUR AND MATERIALS<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In fact, red and pink were the top two trending <\/span>colours<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> this year with searches for the former up 102% and the latter up 56%, while there were 19,000 more pink fashion items on <\/span>Lyst<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> this year.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Also strong were yellow (boosted by Emma Stone\u2019s La La Land dress), khaki, nude, orange, silver, electric blue, <\/span>mustard<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> and rainbow shades. Both mustard and rainbow have proved strong this month.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">On the fabric and pattern front, Lyst has seen rises in searches for gingham, velvet (especially ankle boots), dark florals, plaid, palm prints, wicker, fishnet, camo, <\/span>vinyl<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> and corduroy.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">And shoppers were heavily into fruit with watermelon searches up 140% while pineapples, cherries, <\/span>lemons<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> and pumpkins also rose this year.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Lyst browsers also spent a lot of time looking for specific styles such as \u201cextreme sleeves\u201d (over 200,000 searches) and \u201cluxe socks\u201d with <\/span>sock<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> prices up 10% on average as consumers <\/span>seems<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> happy to pay more for on-trend hosiery.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Meanwhile<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> unicorn searches rose 130% on <\/span>Lyst<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> from May to September as 1,000 unicorn-inspired fashion items were uploaded and proved to be a festival season hit.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #333333;\">DENIM<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Crazy denim has also been trending, Lyst said. That meant plastic jeans, <\/span>mud splattered<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> denim, inside out jeans, jeans with detachable legs, and zip-up crotches. Topshop\u2019s clear plastic jeans and Vetements x Levi\u2019s collaboration \u2018bare butt\u2019 look were the most searched of the year\u2019s \u201cweird and wonderful\u201d releases.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Denim overall remained a key search with one every two seconds and while skinny jeans remained the top term, mom jeans searches rose 109%. Straight leg jeans searches rose 60% and frayed hems were strong too. Searches with the word \u2018hem\u2019 rose 200% with Vetements, <\/span>Mother<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> and Re\/Done frayed hems all popular. Embroidered denim and kick flare jeans also made it into the top six denim searches.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<figure class=\"table\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #333333;\"><a class=\"fancybox\" style=\"color: #333333;\" href=\"http:\/\/us.media.fashionnetwork.com\/m\/b0cc\/f9e0\/4cfa\/b832\/f320\/f9ee\/8f7d\/0b83\/8494\/7c16\/7c16.png\" rel=\"group\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"shadow\" src=\"http:\/\/us.media.fashionnetwork.com\/m\/b0cc\/f9e0\/4cfa\/b832\/f320\/f9ee\/8f7d\/0b83\/8494\/7c16\/650x1019.60\/7c16.png\" \/><\/a><\/span><figcaption><span style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 8pt;\">Rihanna is the year&#8217;s top influencer &#8211; Photo: Fenty Beauty<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #333333;\">As mentioned, the top bag search was for the Gucci Marmont with the JW Anderson Pierce next, then the Chlo\u00e9 Nile, Cult Gaia Ark, Gucci Dionysus, Dior J\u2019adior, Balenciaga Arena, Loewe Elephant, Simon Miler Bonsai and Off-White Binder Clip.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The top <\/span>five\u00a0 sneakers<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> were the Fenty Puma Bow, followed by the Balenciaga Speed, Gucci Ace, Vans Old Skool, and Adidas Gazelle.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #333333;\">Meanwhile, this month\u2019s top searched-for product is the Balenciaga Swing Puffer jacket while last month it was the Topshop Shearling Biker and in September Balenciaga Speed Sneakers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">And finally, who <\/span>were<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> the year\u2019s biggest celebrity influencers? Rihanna was top, as mentioned, followed by Selena Gomez and Bella Hadid. Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have also been big news, while Melania Trump has figured in the mega-influencers list too.
